It is heartening to know that J&K has achieved a milestone in the vaccination by achieving the target of administering one dose of the COVID-19 vaccination to the population of 18 and above across all the districts. The feat is indicative of the fact that the younger population of the Union Territory are now safe and in case they get infected with the COVID infection, there are very fewer chances of the diseases having severe effects as several studies have shown that people who are vaccinated or have received at least one dose of the vaccine are rarely severely affected by COVID if they happen to contract the infection again.
At the same time, the figures state that around 45% of the population in the 18 and above category have received their second dose which means that around half of the population in the said category has been fully vaccinated. It is something which needs to be celebrated. The achievement of the feat, its credit goes to the healthcare workers who have been working tirelessly, particularly, those who have been working in the far-flung areas, persuading people to get vaccinated, during which few among them even had to face the wrath of people who were apprehensive about the safety of the vaccine. However, despite all odds, things fell in line, cut to the present day when the majority of people have been vaccinated.
There is now a need for people—though minuscule in number—to come forward and get vaccinated. Those who have been vaccinated also need to adhere to the CAB and undertake necessary precautions as COVID continues to be around.
