Jammu: Two siblings were among seven people killed in two separate accidents in Doda and Ramban district on Tuesday.
At least five people were killed and 12 others were injured when a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge on Bhaderwah Pathankot road in Doda district on Tuesday afternoon.
Official sources said that Trax vehicle (JK06-5071) met with the accident near Guldanda, leading to on the spot death of five people and injuries to 12 others. The injured were removed to hospital by local volunteers and police personnel, they said.
SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom told GNS that five people were declared brought dead while injured people have been hospitalized. He said that a case has been registered and further investigation taken up with regard to the accident.
Meanwhile two siblings were killed and another person was injured after a vehicle they were traveling in met with an accident in Chamalwas area of Banihal in Ramban district this afternoon, officials said.
They said that an Alto-800 bearing registration number JK02N 1856, skidded off the road and plunged into a 200 metre gorge at Rahampadi Chamalwas, resulting in on spot death of two siblings and injuries to another.
The deceased duo has been identified as Mohammad Afzal Malik (32), Mohammad Azmat (55) and the injured as Shabir Ahmad Malik – sons of Gull Mohammad Malik of Sarbhangi.
The injured person has been taken to SDH Banihal for treatment, the officials said.
Confirming it, a police official told GNS that they have taken cognisance of the incident. (GNS)
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has expressed grief over the loss of lives in unfortunate road accidents in Doda and Ramban.
In a tweet, the Lt Governor said, “Extremely pained by the loss of lives in unfortunate road accidents in Doda and Ramban. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the early recovery of the injured. Directed the DCs to ensure all necessary assistance to the affected.”
The Lt Governor also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased. Rs. 50,000 would be given to those seriously injured.
National Conference President and MP from Srinagar Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah have expressed anguish over the loss of lives in a tragic road mishap in Bhaderwah.
Expressing grief over the unfortunate incident that has cast a pall of sadness over the residents of Bhaderwah and surrounding areas, the duo prayed for peace to the departed soul and prayed for fortitude to the bereaved households to bear the inconsolable loss. (GNS)
