Srinagar: In the aftermath of the abrogation of Article 370, Jammu and Kashmir has embarked on an extraordinary journey of progress and development. Among the most noteworthy achievements is the significant transformation of the region’s infrastructure, thanks to the crucial and visionary steps taken by the LG-led administration.
The administration’s unwavering commitment to enhancing road connectivity has resulted in remarkable improvements, particularly along the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. The construction of vital bridges and a number of tunnels along this lifeline road has been a game-changer for the people of J&K, revolutionizing travel and trade within the region. Ghulam Mohiudin Bhat, a local businessman from South Kashmir’s Anantnag, shared his enthusiasm, “The new bridges have not only reduced travel time but have also facilitated the smooth movement of goods, bolstering our businesses and livelihoods; there is more being done, and there is hope for further improvement.”
The Smart City project in the heart of Srinagar stands as a shining example of the region’s infrastructural transformation. The once-congested and outdated city center has been revitalized, with state-of-the-art amenities and modern urban planning taking precedence. The area now boasts eco-friendly public spaces, efficient waste management systems, and advanced technological integration, making life easier for residents and visitors alike. Abdul Hamid, a Srinagar resident, expressed his joy and contentment, “The transformation is astounding. It’s like living in a modern metropolis without losing the essence of Srinagar’s rich heritage. There is change, and that is visible on the ground. There used to be times when it would take years for projects to complete, now that’s history.”
Another jewel in the crown of J&K’s infrastructural achievements is the Jhelum Riverfront project. This visionary initiative has breathed new life into the banks of the Jhelum River, creating a picturesque and serene atmosphere for residents and tourists to enjoy. The beautification efforts have not only enhanced the aesthetics of the area but also opened up new recreational spaces for the community. Amir Shah, a frequent visitor to the Jhelum Riverfront, said, “The riverfront has become a cherished destination for families and friends to spend quality time amidst nature. It’s like a mini-paradise right in the heart of the city.”
The government’s focus on railway connectivity has been equally impressive, with engineers from across the country showcasing their skills by constructing breathtaking bridges and ensuring rapid progress in railway expansion. With the work on the railway network moving at a great pace in the last few years, it has witnessed further speed aiming at ultimately not only facilitating passenger travel but also boosting the transportation of goods, fostering economic growth in the region.
One of the senior engineers working on the railway project beamed with pride, “Building these awe-inspiring bridges in challenging terrains has been a testament to engineering excellence and our dedication to connecting J&K with the rest of the country.”
The LG-led administration’s foresight and strategic planning have undoubtedly transformed Jammu and Kashmir into a shining example of infrastructural development. The improved road connectivity, the impressive Smart City project, the rejuvenated Jhelum Riverfront, and the fast-paced railway expansion have all played a vital role in shaping the region’s progress and future prosperity. There have been other sectors at the same time that have witnessed rapid growth in infra-buildup.
