Srinagar: In the past few years, especially since August 2019, the region of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has undergone a series of positive changes, with one of the most significant developments being the empowerment of its youth. Under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the administration has taken proactive measures to address long-standing challenges faced by the youth and foster an environment conducive to entrepreneurship and tech growth.

A key initiative by the government has been the promotion of entrepreneurship among the youth. Since August 2019, the administration has extended technical and financial support to approximately 6 lakh young individuals, encouraging them to venture into entrepreneurship. This endeavor has not only created new job opportunities but has also shifted the mindset of the youth from being job seekers to becoming job creators.

“The change has been remarkable. Before, we only looked for government jobs, but now we are inspired to create our own businesses,” says Arif Khan, a young entrepreneur from Anantnag. “The government’s support has been instrumental in empowering us to take charge of our own destinies.”

To further stimulate economic growth and boost the IT industry, the government is constructing new IT towers tailored to accommodate businesses in the technology sector. These towers are expected to generate more employment opportunities, fueling tech growth, and attracting investments in the region. The administration is optimistic that these developments will transform J&K into a hub of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

One official expresses their perspective on the new IT towers: “These structures have been meticulously planned to provide the necessary infrastructure and facilities to nurture the growth of the IT industry in J&K. We believe that this will create more jobs for the youth and contribute to the region’s socio-economic development.”

Additionally, the government has been actively promoting and supporting content creation and skill-sharing programs. These initiatives aim to equip students with the latest IT skills and raise awareness about job opportunities in the sector, fostering an environment ripe for startup development.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha consistently emphasizes the importance of youth empowerment for a better tomorrow. He firmly believes that the future of the nation lies in the hands of its youth and underscores the significance of concerted efforts to bring about socio-economic change.

“When we empower the youth, we empower the future of our nation,” asserts LG Manoj Sinha. “Youth empowerment is not just a policy; it is a commitment towards building a prosperous and dynamic society.”

In addition to promoting entrepreneurship and technology, the government has also prioritized sports as a means to nurture young talent and create sporting opportunities. The introduction of the Sports Policy has paved the way for identifying and honing the skills of young athletes, encouraging them to pursue careers in sports.

“We are witnessing a transformation in the youth’s mindset, as they now see sports as a viable career option,” says Waseem Ahmad, a sports enthusiast. “With proper support and encouragement, I believe we can produce exceptional athletes who can compete at the national and international levels.”

Furthermore, the government has supported local businesses in expanding beyond domestic markets. Recently, a local firm dealing with a special variety of Kashmiri rice, Mushkbudej, was encouraged to explore export opportunities. This move aims to tap into global markets and boost the region’s economy.

As J&K continues its journey towards progress and prosperity, the empowerment of its youth remains at the forefront of the administration’s agenda. With ongoing efforts to promote entrepreneurship, nurture talent in the IT and sports sectors, and expand into global markets, the region is experiencing a promising transformation.
