Militancy ‘taking its last breaths’: DGP Dilbagh Singh

Srinagar: Director General of Police, J& K Dilbag Singh on Saturday said that the militancy is “taking its last breaths”.

“It is our collective resolve to put a complete end to terrorism in J&K,” the top police officer of J&K told reporters on the sidelines of a function on Police Commemoration Day, according to GNS.

He said that commemoration day is being observed across the country to remember and pay tribute to the police fallen heroes of the country who made supreme sacrifices of their lives for the Nation and its people. “On this day our resolve gets further strengthened to work for the country and its security,” he said.

With regard to the two separate firing incidents at borders, the DGP said that both the incidents are being investigated and details of both the incidents would be shared after the investigation is completed. He said that during over past three decades 1606 police personnel have killed.

Paying rich tributes to the martyrs of Police and other forces, the DGP said that because of the sacrifices of these brave hearts militancy has been defeated in J&K.

He said that militancy is taking its last breaths that “our collective resolve is to put a complete end to terrorism in J&K.”

He said that time has gone when on the dictation of Pak and its agencies innocent people used to get targeted in militancy. “Now our people, businessmen, tourists are feeling safer and secure.”

With regard to the narco-terrorism, the DGP said that in the last few years around 39 cases have been registered, investigation of which are being conducted in professional manner by NIA, SIU and SIA.

He informed that recently J&K Police has achieved a major success in Ramban in which around 30 kilograms of cocaine like substance was seized and links of which are connected to Kupwara, Punjab and Uthrakhand. “All the involved have been arrested and investigation is going on,” he added. Anyone found involved in narco-trade/terrorism would be dealt with strictly, he warned.

“It is our resolve to fight Pak backed narco-terrorism/trade with utmost power.” He however, sought the cooperation of people in fighting the menace which he said is the conspiracy of Pakistan to harm the youth and to generate funds for terror activities.

He said some terror camps are still active in parts of Pakistan, many infiltration attempts were made this year of which around 90 percent of attempts were foiled on the border, he said. “Majority of the infiltrators who managed to sneak here have been killed,” he said.
