Elevating People with Disabilities

The Government has not been attending to the woes of the People with Disabilities (PwD) as they continue to face several challenges and issues and on top of it, the Government is yet to frame the rules to make sure that the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 in implemented. Apart from that, the Government has utterly failed in even providing the necessary employment to the People with Disabilities so that they could be at least mad financial independent.

The case can be exemplified by the fact that the JKSSB has conducted the examination of the posts notified by it in February, it is, however, yet to issue the shortlist for the PwD category which has further aggrieved these people. The administration needs to understand that it cannot get away with just providing wheelchairs to these people; rather, with several such people being highly educated, there is a need for opening up the avenues of employment for them rather than keeping them dependent for their whole lives.

Apart from the jobs, the concerned departments must look for options that could elevate such people to the level of being entrepreneurs where they can provide employment to several other people. These people are eager and willing to become employment generators, they do have that passion, but they need active support and help from the Government in achieving that.

There is a need for coming up with novel platforms that could improve the lives of People with Disabilities across J&K. There is a need to help them in reaching the path wherefrom they could take up the journey on their own.
