Months have passed, but the Multi-Level Parking situated in Lal Chowk is yet to be made functional while as people who reaching city centre continue to suffer for the want to parking spaces in the hugely congested area. The parking was constructed after spending crores of rupees, but it not being brought under public utilization only raises questions over the aim of the administration behind spending so much money and investing time and human resources.
As of now, some cars are parked on roads, lanes, by-lanes, leading to traffic jams and as a result, a great amount of time is consumed on shorter journeys even as the pedestrians find it difficult to walk by. The court has been actively monitoring the traffic situation in the city has passed several directions in this regard, however, this time again, the court needs to pay some attention to the non-utilization of the newly constructed parking space which can accommodate over 700 vehicles and can largely decrease the parking woes in the city and indirectly will make commuting through the city centre hassle-free.
The administration, particularly the concerned department needs to come up with the reasons as to why the parking is not being made functional even after the passage of more than 3 months since its completion. The court as well needs to take suo motu cognizance of the matter and direct the concerned authorities to explain the case as to why there has been so much delay in making the facility functional despite knowing that the same is situated at a critical spot in the city.
