Govt School Principal, Teacher Shot Dead In Fresh Killings In Kashmir

Srinagar: Principal and a teacher of a government school were shot dead by unknown gunmen suspected to be militants at sangam Eidgah area of Srinagar on Thursday. The killings came a day after three civilians including owner of famous chemist shop Bindroo medicate were killed in Srinagar and Bandipora districts.

A police spokesman here said that militants fired upon two staff members of the government School at around 11:30 hours.

Soon, DGP J&K Dilbag Singh(IPS) along with IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar(IPS), IG CRPF Ms. Charu Sinha and other senior officers of Police and CAPF reached at the spot.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that (militants) had fired upon the Principal & a teacher of the government Boys Higher Secondary School Sangam,” the spokesman said.

They have been identified as Supinder Kour (Principal) resident of Rengipora Beerwah and Deepak Chand (Teacher) resident of Jammu, the spokesman said.

Both of them were immediately evacuated to nearby SKIMS hospital. However, they succumbed to their injuries, the spokesman said.

“Police have registered a case in this regard under relevant sections of law,” he said in a statement to GNS.

“Investigation is in progress and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of this crime. Area has been cordoned and search in the area is going on.”

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar said 28 civilians have been killed by militants this year.

“Out of 28, five persons belong to local Hindu/Sikh community and 2 non-local Hindu labourers,” he said, adding, “Due to killing of huge number of (militants) of all outfits specially their leaderships, destruction of their support structures and continuous and effective maintenance of law & order, (militant) handlers across have got frustrated and changed their strategy and started targeting unarmed policemen, innocent civilians, politicians and now innocent civilians from minority communities including woman.”

He said that in all such cases militants have been using pistols. “These acts are committed by newly recruited (militants) or those who are about to join (militant) rank,” he said, adding, “In some cases, OGWs have been found directly involved.”

J&K Police, he said, is working hard and “we are identifying all such part-time/hybrid (militants) and strictest action shall be taken against them.”

“We have received several leads and are working on it. We have also been launching operations along with security forces,” he said, adding, “We appeal to general public specially minority communities not to panic. We have been maintaining peace and secured environment and will continue to do so.” (GNS)
