Hazart Muawiya Bin Abu Sufiyan (RA) is one of the most well known Companion of our Prophet Mohammed (saw) . He’s regarded as Katib E Wahi (The one who wrote revelation. Hazart Ibni khateer (ra) has mentioned about it in Al Bidaya wa nahaya 354/5 ) . His sister UmmHabib (ra) who’s full name was Ramla bint Abi Sufiyan (ra) was married to Our Prophet (saw). Which means Muawiya (ra) was Prophet’s (saw) brother in law. He (ra) is also referred to as Umm ul Mamu ( Maternal uncle of Ummah). While the revelation came to our prophet (saw) he asked to call Hazrat Muawiya (ra) . When he (ra) came, he (ra) was ordered to write by Prophet(saw) . He replied “I don’t have pen my Beloved Prophet (saw) and he left. He (ra) was again called by Our beloved Prophet (saw) and once again asked to write, to which he again replied “I don’t have pen my Beloved Prophet”. The Prophet (saw) replied “O’ Muawiya (ra) Jibreel (AS) has come and Allah has send a Pen and an inkpot for you. Sit and write”. Hazrat Ameer E Muawiya (ra) is no ordinary companion of our Beloved Prophet (saw). There’s a sahi Hadith in burkhari, which testify that Hazrat Muawiya (ra) is the one who was given good tidings of Jannah. Prophet (saw) those who shall be involved in the first naval expedition shall entry Paradise and Hazrat Muawiya (ra) was one among them.(For reference Sahi Al Bukhari 2924 and 2799) Hazrat Muawiya bin Sufiyan (ra) was once sitting on a camel with Hazrat Mohammed (saw) , the Prophet (saw) asked “O’Muawiya (ra) which of your body part touches my body part. He (ra) replied “My Chest , My beloved Prophet(saw)”. Then Prophet Muhammed (saw) made dua for him “O Allah fill the chest of Muawiya (ra) with knowledge”. To be very honest I had some misconceptions regarding Hazrat Ameer E Muawiya (ra) but “Allah Guides who he will”. When Allah guided me, I got to know what noble personality he was. While their was conflict going between Hazrat Ali (ra) and Hazrat Ameer E Muawiya (ra). The ruler of Casar O Cisra wrote a letter to Hazrat Muawiya (ra) telling him that he the ruler is ready to help Muawiya against Ali. To which Hazart Muawiya (ra) wrote back “ If you even step in here, I’ll be the one to chop off your head. Stay away from us”. We can never accuse Him (ra) of being greedy of becoming a ruler. Never, he was a guy taught and guided by our prophet (saw) by himself. Pointing fingers at him is questioning the teaching of Prophet (saw). In another Narration it’s mentioned that Prophet (saw) made supplication for Hazrat Muawiya (ra) saying “Ya Allah make Muawiya (ra) among the guided and guide people through him”.( Reference: Saheeh Sunan At-Tirmithee, 3018) For whose guidance Prophet (saw) by himself makes Dua. We must not have any doubt about his guidance in any way . Once Hazrat Ibn Abbas (ra) saw a man praying 1 rakat of witar and when the man finished praying witar, he was stopped by Hazrat Abbas (ra) and asked why did he offer only when rakat of witar to which he replied “I have seen Muawiya (ra) offering one rakat. So I also offered only one. To which Hazrat Abbas replied “If you have seen Muawiya (ra) offering one rakat of witar. Then without any doubt Prophet (saw) has offered one rakat during his life time”. There’s a clear Haidth in sahi Bukhari where Hazrat Abbas (ra) defends Hazrat Muawiya for offering one Rakat of Witar ( For reference :- Sahi Al Bukhari 3765) . Tareekh E Damiskh is filled with the virtues of Hazrat Muawiya (ra). Not only this book but Hadith books like Bukhari, Muslim, Sunan Nisai and many more are filled with the virtues of Hazrat Muawiya (ra). And in books like Bukhari and Muslim there are narrations from Muawiya (ra) which are classified as Sahi. Which in itself is a witness in a favor of Hazrat Muawiya (ra) being a righteous and noble Companion of Hazrat Mohammed (saw) . In one of the Narrations Hazrat Abbas testifies Hazrat Muawiya (ra) being a righteous person. There was a conflict between Hazrat Ali (ra) and Hazrat Muawiya (ra) but that in no way makes Muawiya (ra) a companion of Prophet (saw) who we can question or speak bad about. When Hazrat Ali (ra) never spoke bad against Muawiya (ra) or questioned his intentions. So who are we to question. When fight took place between Hazrat Muawiya (ra) and Hazrat Ali(ra). Hazrat Ali (ra) made clear instructions of ensuring respect and honour to the martyrs of Hazrat Muwaiya’s (ra) group and said “My Martyars are in Jannah and Muawiya’s (ra) martyrs are in Janah”. When Hazrat Ali called the Martyrs of his group people of Jannah. My question is to those who start questioning the battle. What grounds do you take today when Hazrat Ali settled it then and there? It’s really unfortunate that people who don’t have basics clear start speaking on these things. Maulana Ishaq Madani who’s the well known critic of Hazrat Muawiya (ra) say RA while taking his name. And Engineer Ali Mirza in one of his clips where he was answering a question said “Yes this is the hadith and no doubt he’s in Janaah”. He was asked about Naval expedition and Ameer E Muawiya (ra) being part of it.
There remains no room for questioning the intentions of Hazrat Ameer E Muawiya (ra) . Abusing or cursing Him (ra) is out of question. Alhamdulillah with the grace of Allah I have no doubt regarding anything related to Hazrat Muawiya (ra) . There may be point of agreement or disagreement in regards to him but no one can question the intentions of Hazrat Ameer E Muawiya (ra) . His intentions were always pure and fully in agreement with Islam.
Hazrat Abdullah bin Mubarak (ra) was asked a question by people. Who’s best among the two Hazrat Ameer E Muawiya (ra) or Umar bin Abdul Aazeez (ra). Abdullah Bin Mubarak (ra) refused to answer the question. But when he was asked the question again and again he said listen “The dust that used to rise from the feet of the camel on which Hazrat Muawiya (ra) used to travel with Hazrat Mohammed (saw) . Get that dust put that from on side and 1000 Umar bin Abdul Azeez from another. That Dust shall weigh more”. He said and you were comparing one Umar bin Abdul Azeez (ra) with Hazrat Muwaiya (ra) . To be noted Hazrat Umar bin Abdul azeez (ra) was regarded as Umar E Sani. ( Sani means second). He got this tile because when he was the ruleer he established same system of Justice as was During Umar Bin khattab (ra).
And the end to every confusion is Shulah Hassan. An agreement was signed between Hazrat Ameer E Muawiya (ra) and Hazrat Hassan (ra). This agreement came while Hazrat Hassan (RA) was the Caliph of Muslims. He became Calipha after Hazrat Ali (ra). The prediction was already made by Hazrat Mohammed (saw) during his life time. Prophet Mohammed (saw) said “Hassan will make peace between two groups of Muslim”. It’s also mentioned in the Hadith that both these groups shall be no ordinary but of high virtues. Prophet (saw) made the prediction and Hazrat Hassan executed it. Now what’s the point of discussing it and taking why’s, ifs and buts out of it.
We are the lovers of Companion of Prophet (saw). It’s part of outr faith to love them. Those who have doubt any of the companion of Prophet (saw) must take a look at his faith.
