One killed, another injured in Kulgam terror attack

LG Condemns Terror Attack, Orders Intensified Anti-Terror Ops

Srinagar: In a fresh act of terror in the Kashmir Valley, one non-local worker was killed and another sustained injuries after terrorists opened fire on them in Kellam area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Friday evening.

According to officials, the terrorists targeted two labourers from outside the Union Territory, who were working in the area. The assailants fired indiscriminately at the workers, leaving both critically injured.

Soon after the incident, local residents and security personnel rushed the injured to a nearby hospital for emergency medical treatment. However, one of the workers succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital, officials confirmed. The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.

The injured worker, whose condition is stated to be stable, has been shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Anantnag for advanced treatment, where doctors are monitoring his condition closely, officials told Good Morning Kashmir.

Following the attack, security forces immediately cordoned off the entire area. A massive search operation has been launched to track down the terrorists responsible for the attack.Newspapers

Police have registered a case and investigations are underway. “We are working on specific leads and will nab the perpetrators soon,” a senior police officer said.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has strongly condemned the brutal terror attack on labourers in Kulgam.

The Lieutenant Governor spoke with the Director General of Police, J&K and top security officials. He has directed the security forces to step up their operations and eliminate the terrorists.

The Lieutenant Governor wrote on X: “I spoke with the DGP, Shri Nalin Prabhat and top security officials following the brutal terrorist attack in Kulgam in which a labourer from Chhattisgarh was killed. I strongly condemn this cowardly act. I have directed our security forces to step up their operations and eliminate the terrorists.

J&K Police and Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to bring the perpetrators to justice. Another injured labourer from Chhattisgarh has been rushed to the hospital for urgent medical care. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family and I am praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. J&K administration and the entire nation stand with the families.”

This attack comes at a time when security forces have been conducting anti-terror operations across several districts of Kashmir. Non-local workers and migrants have been frequent targets of terrorists in the valley, leading to heightened security concerns.
