Incessant rains lash Kashmir plains, snowfall in upper reaches

Srinagar:  The higher reaches of Kashmir continued to receive light snowfall while the incessant rains lashed the plains of Kashmir for the second straight day on Thursday.

The world famous ski-resort and other upper reaches of Kashmir received light snowfall for the second straight day, thus bringing the temperature further down in the Valley.

The incessant rains also lashed plains of Kashmir since today morning, thus resulting in inundation of roads, streets and bi-lanes in Srinagar and other areas.

Deputy Director Meteorological department (MeT), Mukhtar Ahmad told KNO that the light rains would continue across plains tomorrow as well while the light snowfall is expected in upper reaches of the Valley.

Ahmad also stated that another Western Disturbance would likely hit Kashmir on March 14 and 15, saying that there is possibility of light rains and snowfall across the Valley during the two days from Sunday.

Meanwhile, the officials in the traffic department informed KNO that the Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only road connecting valley with rest of States, was thrown throughout the day despite the rains.

A top official said that the highway was open for Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) for the either sides, saying that the road will remain closed tomorrow for maintenance and repair purposes.
