JCO, militant JCO, militantin Rajouri encounter

SRINAGAR: An Indian Army officer was killed in a gunfight with suspected militants in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday.

The gunfight broke out in Rajouri’s Thanamandi area, according to the news agency. Security forces were conducting a search operation when the suspected militants fired on them.

Army spokesman in Jammu, Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand issued a statement. Kar said that “during a search operation carried out by the security forces in Thannamandi area of Rajouri district on Thursday morning, the militants hiding in the forest suddenly started firing on the security forces”.

Defence Ministry Spokesman Lt. Colonel Devender Anand said, “Today during an encounter with the terrorists in Thanamandi area of Rajouri, one JCO of Rashtriya Rifles suffered bullet injuries.

“The JCO was immediately evacuated to the nearest medical facility, but later he succumbed to injuries,” he said.

The J&K Police had killed two militant in the same area on August 6. Reports coming from the area said the operation against the militants was still underway in the area.

Meanwhile, a joint patrolling party of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two bike-borne persons and recovered a pistol, two magazines, and 12 rounds from them.

They were arrested following a chase after one of them brandished the pistol when security forces asked them to stop in Kulgam yesterday, said the Police. An FIR has been registered in this regarding. (PTK)
