There has been an issue of cancellation of ration cards to several holders in Srinagar including several other districts. The ration holders are not being given ration due to which they have been left to fend for themselves with nowhere to go. On the pretext that there have been issues with the ration cards, the Department cannot stop ration to these affected families which are said to be over 500 in district Srinagar only.
These families are running from pillar to post to get the issue sorted, however, they are being asked that the process is going to take time and till then, they are not going to get the ration which is a violation of their basic right to life for the food is important.
The department needs to understand here that these families belong to a lower-middle-class and are solely dependent on the ration provided to them by the Government on subsidized rates. If the department has to set its record right, it may do so, but it cannot be allowed to make these people suffer.
The concerned authorities should take note of the issue and should issue the directives to the concerned department asking them to issue ration to these families and at the same time, the concerned department needs to expedite the process of correcting its record while desisting from making people suffer for want of ration every month. There is a need for deputing additional staff so that the work of correcting the records and other processes are done swiftly. However, what needs to be taken care of is that people shouldn’t suffer.
