With the advent of technology, the crimes have also changed and now J&K is also witnessing a considerable increase in the number of cyber-crimes. As per the new figures that have been released by the Government, there has been quite an increase in the number of cyber-crimes and that has only happened with the popularity of the technology and almost everyone is a potential victim of cyber-crime.
However, at the same time, it appears that the investigation of such cases in J&K including that of several other states has been low, maybe because the personnel engaging in the investigation of such cases are not well trained to deal with such matters, or there is a lack of such people who are well aware of the nitty-gritties of the cyber-crime. On the other side, the trial in these cases has also proven to be negligible. Almost majority of such cases are pending trial and due to which there is no progress in these cases, resulting in less clearance of such cases along with a low rate of conviction.
Keeping the scenario, put forth by the released figures, in view, there is a dire need for certain systematic changes to be carried out: these changes need to take place in the process of detection of such cases, followed by the investigation part of it and then the trial. There is a need for carrying out changes at the micro-level so that the effects of the change are reflected on the surface for a better outcome.
