Srinagar: Two militants, who had joined “Lashker-e-Toiba/TRF” this year, were killed in an overnight encounter with joint team of police, army and CRPF in southern Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said on Thursday.
“On receipt of reliable information about the presence of (militants) Redwani Bala Kulgam, Police alongwith Army’s 1 RR and CRPF launched a joint cordon and search operation last night,” a police spokesman said in a statement to GNS.
“The house where the (militants) were trapped was cordoned off and an opportunity to surrender was given to the trapped (duo). However the ((militants) denied (the offer) and opened indiscriminate fire upon the (joint team),” he said, adding, “The fire was retaliated, leading to an encounter. Intermittent exchange of fire kept taking place and at around 02:20 am, the two trapped (militants) were neutralised.”
They have been identified as Aamir Bashir Daralias Danish, a resident of Kujjar Yaripora who was active from April 2021, and Aadil Yousuf Shan of Sursano, Hatipora Kulgam who was active from October 2021. “Both of them were C categorized (militants and were affiliated with TRF/LET,” he said, adding, “Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.” However details about actual recoveries were not provided.
Regarding the incident, he said, a case (FIR no. 105/2021) under “relevant sections of law” has been registered at Police Station Qaimoh and investigation has been initiated. (GNS)
