To Hold Protest At Srinagar On New Year
Jammu: People’s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), an alliance of various political parties formed to fight restoration of Article 370 and 35A of Indian constitution, “unanimously” expressed “deep dissatisfaction and shock” regarding recommendations of the Delimitation Commission which has proposed six new seats for Jammu region and only one seat for Kashmir Valley.
The PAGD also announced to hold a protest demonstration on January 1 at Srinagar against “divisive and unacceptable recommendations” by the Commission which is headed Justice (Retd.) Ranjana Prakash Desai and comprises Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra and J&K’s State Election Commissioner, Kewal Kumar Sharma as members.
The decision was taken by the PAGD in its maiden meeting at Jammu under the chairmanship of Dr. Farooq Abdullah in which the current political situation of Jammu and Kashmir was discussed.
“The draft of the delimitation commission was thoroughly examined,” PAGD spokesman Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said in statement to GNS.
”The leaders of PAGD unanimously expressed their deep dissatisfaction and shock with regard to recommendations of the commission,” he said, adding, “The constitutionality of the commission under the reorganization act has been challenged in the Supreme Court of India. The recommendations are highly disappointing and divisive and will further disempower the people of Kashmir.”
He said the recommendations were bound to widen the gaps between regions and communities.
“As such it is unacceptable to the people of the region,” Tarigami said, adding, “It also appealed to the people to remain united and not fall prey to the divisive and disruptive designs of BJP.”
Besides , he said, PAGD has also decided to hold a peaceful protest on Ist of January 2022 at Srinagar against these “divisive and unacceptable” recommendations of the Commission.
“It appealed the people of Gujar and Pahari speaking communities also to remain together at this hour of serious crisis,” Tarigami, who is a leader of CPI (M), added. (GNS)
