Srinagar, Aug 4: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will today handover government jobs to 250 families of civilians killed by terrorists in the Valley over the last three decades as part of his efforts to provide helping hand to them who were battling the loss of their loved ones on their own.
The appointment letters will be handed over by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at an official function scheduled for August 5 at SKICC, Srinagar on the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370.
Officials said the beneficiaries, drawn from districts across North, Central, and South Kashmir, belong to families who lost loved ones to acts of violence perpetrated by various terrorist groups including Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
These groups have long been responsible for widespread attacks on civilians and security personnel, often carrying out brutal executions, mutilations, and indiscriminate killings meant to sow fear and suppress dissent.
According to officials, most of the victims were innocent civilians, many of whom were the sole breadwinners of their households. Their deaths not only inflicted deep emotional wounds but also pushed their families into economic distress and social exclusion. “These families have long lived in the shadows of grief and neglect,” a senior government official said, noting that the move is part of a broader effort to acknowledge their pain and provide them with long-overdue support.
Districts such as Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara in North Kashmir; Budgam, Ganderbal, and Srinagar in Central Kashmir; and Pulwama, Shopian, and Anantnag in South Kashmir have all been impacted by terror violence. Families from these areas will be among the recipients of the appointment letters.
This is not the first time the administration has taken steps to support victims’ next of kin.
On July 13, the Lieutenant Governor handed over appointment letters to 40 such families in Baramulla, followed by another 80 families receiving jobs at a similar event held on July 28 in Jammu.
Officials said that under LG Sinha’s leadership, efforts are being intensified to ensure justice and rehabilitation for those who have borne the brunt of decades of militancy. “These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to stand by the victims of terror and help them rebuild their lives with dignity,” he added.
