Officials said the demolition was carried out using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) as part of an intensified crackdown linked to the ongoing investigation into the blast.
Security forces demolished the house of Dr. Umar Nabi Bhat, the driver of the i20 car involved in Monday evening’s blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, which killed nine people and injured several others – during an overnight operation in Koil village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, official sources said.
Officials said the demolition was carried out using improvised explosive devices (IEDs) as part of an intensified crackdown linked to the ongoing investigation into the blast.
Police suspect Dr. Bhat to be a key figure in what they describe as a “white-collar group” of medical professionals allegedly involved in a terror module uncovered days before the Red Fort explosion. “He is believed to have been steering and motivating the rest of the flock,” a senior officer said.
Investigators claim Bhat and another doctor, identified as Dr. Ganai, were “key members” of the module and had been stockpiling explosives and detonators over several months. A senior source involved in the probe said Dr. Bhat frequently spoke about carrying out “spectacular attacks.”
Although families of both doctors insist the two do not know each other, police believe they have been in contact since 2018. The investigation into the blast and the terror network remains ongoing.
