Darbar Opens in Srinagar; CM Omar accorded guard of honour
New Delhi: Asserting that the country is prepared to deal with rapidly evolving security challenges, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said ‘Operation Sindoor’ demonstrated India’s growing capability to integrate advanced technology into modern warfare.
Addressing a defence symposium in Prayagraj, Singh, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said, “The operation showcased the effectiveness of indigenous systems and reflected the armed forces’ readiness to adapt to new forms of combat.”
He said modern conflicts are undergoing rapid transformation, with technologies such as drones, sensors and artificial intelligence increasingly shaping battlefield outcomes.
Referring to recent global conflicts, Singh noted that warfare has shifted significantly in a short span of time, underlining the need for constant adaptation.
The Minister said India must maintain a proactive approach and build capabilities that ensure preparedness for any future scenario, including the ability to respond decisively when required.
He stressed that the element of surprise remains a critical factor in warfare and said efforts are underway to further strengthen operational readiness in this regard.
Highlighting the government’s focus on defence innovation, Singh said research and development have been placed at the centre of policy priorities. He said initiatives led by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) are aimed at boosting indigenous capabilities and reducing dependence on imports.
He said the government has eased technology transfer norms to support collaboration with industry. Over 2,200 technologies have been transferred to private and public sector players so far, he added.
Singh said Indian industries have been given access to DRDO patents, a step aimed at enhancing their technological base and competitiveness. Testing facilities under DRDO have also been opened to industry to support research activities.
The minister called upon industry stakeholders to invest in emerging domains such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, hypersonic systems and advanced weapons platforms.
He said infrastructure development linked to the defence sector is also being prioritised, including projects under the defence industrial corridor.
Referring to his recent visit abroad, Singh said foreign companies are showing interest in partnering with Indian firms, indicating growing confidence in the domestic defence ecosystem.
Senior Army officials present at the event highlighted the need for greater synergy between the armed forces, industry and research institutions to address operational challenges through indigenous technological solutions.
They said capabilities such as unmanned systems, precision strike platforms and AI-driven tools are becoming essential in establishing an advantage in future conflicts—(KNO)
