Under the smart city project, the Administration had installed hydrants to be used by the fire tenders in case of any fire incident for refilling, but to utter dismay; these hydrants are not even functional despite the money spent on the same. The idea behind the installation of hydrants was to scrap the refilling of fire tenders which used to turn out dangerous at the time, however, even after the installation, these hydrants are running dry as the concerned department has utterly failed in giving the water supply to it.
The reason which is being given is low pressure, but that excuse cannot be accepted as the issue of low pressure along with other constraints should have been taken care of earlier. There is no point in bringing such a reason as an excuse which is, in turn, hampering the functionality of the critical equipment in the process of dousing down the flames.
The hydrants are critical and should be made operational without any further delay as the same could prove dangerous in the wake of any such incident in the future. The non-functionality of these hydrants is turning out to be a major issue particularly in the old city where the refilling points are not available and the process consumes more time which then proves fatal for the victims of the fire incident.
The Administration must take note of it and pull up the concerned department directing it to improve the water pressure so that the supply reaches the hydrants and the same are put to use in times of emergency.
