Drinking water woes

Despite the numbers provided by the Government that it is ensuring tapped drinking water facilities to every household, there are still area areas across Kashmir that are struggling with the problem of not having round a clock drinking water facility.

There, still, are areas where the people have to wait to collect the water for consumption and are even forced to travel a distance to collect the same. There are areas where the work on the water supply schemes are either being carried out at a snail’s pace or has been brought to a halt. There still are areas that are craving uninterrupted drinking water facilities.

No matter the Government has achieved a lot concerning ensuring that every household gets the drinking water facility, there is still a need for doing more to make sure that while the work on the campaign of ensuring 100% coverage of piped drinking water, the areas which are suffering more are brought in and the issues that they are facing are resolved.

The situation is quite different in the rural areas where there are spots where the people are forced to put the water flowing in the streams in use for domestic purposes due to which there are chances of the population being exposed to the health hazards.

There is a need for putting in place a robust mechanism to ensure that the areas that are facing grave drinking water issues are taken care of so that the population living in these areas heave a sigh of relief once for all.
