Taking care of city roads

Now that the winter is almost gone, the administration should not shift its focus to the dilapidated condition of city roads. The majority of roads are now craving for immediate attention by the concerned department and at the same time, the people also do want some respite from duty that they eat and inhale during their daily commute.

The roads are in bad shape mostly in the old city part of Srinagar, even though the roads in upper areas of the city are also in the same condition. Due to the bad condition of the city roads, the people are suffering immensely, while as the condition of private vehicles only deteriorates with every passing day.

The administration must start repairing and macadamization of the roads now that the schools are set to reopen and kids are all ready to join their classmates after such a long period of ‘chutti’. There is a need for making their daily travels a bit easier, and smooth—which is as of now, bumpy and tiresome.

Apart from taking care of roads, there is also a need for clearing footpaths in Srinagar city to provide hassle-free passage to the commuters who use the footpaths on daily basis. Come summer, the administration and other concerned departments must make sure that the roads and other services are kept up to the mark and are maintained. There is also a need of making sure that the material used in the macadamization of roads is up to the mark and as per standards.
